It appears that most of the hopper cars have been in use to collect and move much of the grain to where?? A bit over 2 months ago it was reported that China owned 60% of the worlds grain.
That would mean that much of the American grain in storage was sold to the Chinese and must be moved by rail car to ships. The Railroads report that the hopper cars are tied up under contract in shuttle trains and not available for normal transport..
The last time I saw this was during the Carter era. America had vast amounts of grains in storage a cross the nation and then there was none. Chinese and Soviet buyers had quietly bought it all up because there was a world wide projected short fall. It was shipped out and then America was looking at a shortage and runaway food prices, So Carter slapped an embargo on further foreign grain sales to protect Americans from runaway food costs. As farmers could not sell to “anyone” they were forced to sell to the Grain Companies that had cleaned things out, on the cheap. The grain companies refilled their warehouses on the cheap while selling to American users at the much higher world prices. An entire generation of American Grain growers were bankrupted by rapidly inflating costs and artificially reduced prices..
My guess is now much of the “vanished”stored grain is now in hopper cars on sidings and rail yards awaiting ships.
Just for everyone’s information. Yesterday morning a Long train of rail flat cars passed through Red Bluff, exclusively loaded with what looked like an Armored Division’s equipment,. from tanks to Humvees. Destination unknown, but there is an Army Depot near Port of Stockton

This guy provides in depth research from Australia on world events and gives his analysis of the results. I don’t always agree, but he seems to be honest in his facts. This episode is one his best.
